Lifting and bending are not bad for your back. Moving heavy loads in an awkward posture may increase your risk of new onset low back pain.
Manual handling guidelines have failed to prevent or reduce low back pain. The Health and Safety Executive recognises this.
If you don’t have back pain don’t even think about posture think about being healthy – eat well, sleep well, move well, relate well, feel well. Tiredness and stress are more significant in many cases of back pain than lifting technique.
