Does the menopause cause weight gain?
25/03/2019
Many women gain weight around the menopause but there is no scientific evidence that the menopause or HRT are the cause of the weight gain.
Many women notice around their menopause that they transition from having more weight below the waist to more weight above the waist.
Weight gain is often due to ageing and lifestyle changes. You may be less active in your 40s and 50s. Aging causes metabolism to slow and also muscles naturally lose their tone unless you work them as you age. Keeping active and eating healthily with the right size portions will help you to maintain your normal weight.
