Does lifting cause back pain?
Some people feel their back pain come on when they bend over so then think that bending must be bad for them. Often they were doing an action they have done many times before. Researchers have done many studies looking at lifting techniques, lifting weight and what causes back pain. The conclusion is that you can lift with a straight or round back and it is fine, a round back may be less tiring with repetitive lifting. They have found that if you have an episode of back pain from lifting it may be due to other circumstances – being unhappy in your work, not wanting to do the task, feeling tired or stressed.
The key message to take away is that backs are strong, you can trust your back.
