Keep warm!
When you get cold it can cause your muscles to tense up as you shiver and hold yourself tight to try and keep warm. Mostly this will go away once you get warmed up but sometimes it lingers. This lingering pain can make movement stiff and uncomfortable.
How do you avoid back pain from cold weather?
If you enjoy walking, stand watching football, have to wait for the bus or have other reasons to be out for long periods in the cold weather, keep warm. Wearing lots of layers enables you to regulate your temperature more easily. Keep moving instead of holding yourself tight and tense. Once you have opportunity to warm up relax your muscles and keep moving.
What to do if you have back pain from the cold?
Try not to hold yourself tense to avoid pain. Keep moving and active as much as possible. Using heat may help to relax the muscles. The pain may go off in a few hours or a couple of days.
