If the clot moves it becomes an embolism and can cause serious consequences if it travels to a major organ of the body.<\/p>\n<p>DVT can occur at any age but there are certain factors that may increase your risk:<\/p>\n<p>DVT is more common in people over 60<\/p>\n<p>Sedentary lifestyle \u2013 sitting or bed rest for long periods of time can put you at risk of DVT<\/p>\n<p>Long journey<\/p>\n<p>Obesity (BMI &gt;30)<\/p>\n<p>Pregnancy<\/p>\n<p>Oral contraceptive pill and HRT<\/p>\n<p>Dehydration<\/p>\n<p>Smoking \u2013 Smoking narrows your blood vessels and increases blood pressure increasing your risk of DVT<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is when a blood clot forms in a deep vein of the body.
