How can I prevent a DVT?
20/03/2019
Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is when a blood clot forms in a deep vein of the body. If the clot moves it becomes an embolism and can cause serious consequences if it travels to a major organ of the body. There are some preventative actions you can take:
Get moving – Move regularly if you have a job that involves prolonged sitting or you are on a long flight or journey.
Keep hydrated by drinking plenty of water
Maintain a healthy weight – being overweight increases your risk for blood clots
Medication can be helpful for reducing your risk of DVT in high risk circumstances – this would be prescribed by your doctor
