How does stress affect me?
Everyone has experienced stress. That feeling of being under pressure or perhaps out of control.
Stress underlies many of the pain problems seen in clinic. It affects your nervous system, breathing rate, blood pressure, digestion, pain tolerance, sleep and muscle tension – your wellbeing can be significantly affected by high stress levels or ongoing stress.
Stress can be caused by many things – illness, financial concerns, work, relationships, bereavement, change. Stress may lead you to have difficulty sleeping, feel anxious and short-tempered, you may have difficulty concentrating or lose your appetite.
Ongoing stress can affect your long-term health.
